Scam Alert

Members please be cautious when receiving phone calls and emails claiming to be representing ROME Credit Union or any of our business partners. Recently we have been made aware of a scam that involves messages left on members voice mail with a return phone number that is answered Service Center Credit Union. The members are then quizzed for cardholder information. Once the information was obtained, fraudulent activities were discovered on their accounts through ATM’s in Spain. This is not a legitimate message. As a reminder:

ROME Credit Union would never ask for any Visa/Debit Card card related information over the phone, such as a FULL account number, expiration dates, or security numbers located on the back of the card. Should anyone call or email you with these request, DO NOT COMPLY and contact ROME Credit Union immediately.

Free Credit Reports

Annualcreditreport.com is an official site to help consumers to obtain their free credit reports annually. Not to be confused with other sites, this particular site does provide a totally free credit report without any monthly membership fees. You can also reach them at (877) 322-8228 to request your copy. You have the option of requesting all three credit reports at once, or spacing them out throughout the year. This will enable you to monitor your credit reports more frequently. However it is possible that each report can have slightly different information - all the more reason to check them.

It is important to take advantage of this opportunity to check your credit report for accuracy. Any inaccurate information could affect your credit score and impair your ability to obtain credit, insurance or rent a home. Monitoring your credit is also a great way to detect identity theft, If you see any errors, accounts you do not recognize, or unauthorized activity, contact your credit reporting agency. If you suspect identity theft, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-ID-THEFT. They can also be found on the web at www.consumer.gov/idtheft.
